Life transition is critical and stressful. 21st century is a complex era. We have so much freedom and opportunity, yet we can find ourselves being pulled into many different directions, which can be quite disorienting. You are fortunate if you have found some answers to the questions of “who I am” or “what do I want to do with my life”. My experience with many clients in their late 20’s or early 30’s reveals that many are having a difficult time understanding what they really want and then following through by developing realistic plans to fulfill their life desires. Many are also dismayed that they live in such a competitive world and that they have to constantly battle with feeling “less than” somebody else at their work or in their relationships.
Making a successful transition involves daring to have a vision for your future and developing a strategy to realize your vision. It is a process of coming to know yourself deeply and of building favorable environmental conditions that will support the realization of your goals. It is important to establish the emotional resiliency and discipline needed so you will be able to overcome the expected and unexpected obstacles in your path. For example, this can involve resolving past hurts and disappointments so that negative patterns or habits that hinder your growth can be interrupted and stopped.
This can be a challenging process and it is why some people invest in having a professionally trained counselor offer them personalized guidance and support. Seeing a counselor while going through life transitions is like having a personal trainer that can aid you in getting to the next level. This relationship is one of mutual trust, which challenges you to grow, and provides accountability and reinforcement in a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere.
Being in late 20’s and early 30’s can be one of the most exciting times of your life. It is a time when you have the resources and maturity to make a positive difference that you will benefit from for the rest of your life. The choice is yours!
